Garam Masala Chocolate Truffles

These easy vegan dark chocolate truffles are fragrant with our nutty and spicy Garam Masala—perfect for a Valentine who likes a little exrra something in their chocolatey treats.

Technically, they’re 3-ingredient truffles requiring only chocolate, coconut milk and Garam Masala. But add chopped nuts, dried fruit, cocoa nibs or anything else your heart desires. Then roll them in cocoa powder, powdered sugar, melted dark chocolate… you get the gist.

We used the Minimalist Baker’s 2-Ingredient Chocolate Truffle recipe for these and highly recommend you check them out if any of the below requires further guidance.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Course: Dessert

Inactive time: 2-3 hours

Active time: 20-30 minutes

Masalas Needed:  Garam Masala

Makes about 20 truffles

INGREDIENTS:

  • 9 ounces dark chocolate

  • 2/3 cup full-fat coconut milk

  • 1 tsp FC Garam Masala, plus more as desired

  • 3-4 Tbsp dark cocoa powder

  • Optional: 2 Tbsp total cocoa nibs, chopped nuts, chopped dried fruit

DIRECTIONS:

  • In a food processor or by hand, chop the chocolate until it’s in fine shards. Place in medium mixing bowl. Stir in 1tsp FC Garam Masala.

  • In a medium measuring cup, heat the coconut milk until steaming and slightly bubbling, but not boiling.

  • Pour coconut milk over chocolate, spreading as equally as posssible, and cover immediately. Set side for 5 minutes.

  • Uncover and stir, slowly, until the chocolate is as melted as possible. If not completely melted, microwave on low in 20-second bursts, stirring slowly to melt the chocolate as much as possible, until fully melted. The chocolate should melt from the heat of itself—not more microwaving—so that it’s glossy and luscious.

  • Stir in optional nibs, fruit and nuts.

  • Refrigerate until almost completely firm—2-3 hours.

  • When almost firm, set cocoa powder in a small, low bowl. Stir in another 1/4 tsp or so of FC Garam Masala if desired. Spread a small sheet tray or plate with parchment paper. Wash hands with soap and cold water.

  • Measure out about 1 Tbsp of chocolate. With cold hands, quickly roll into a ball and lightly dredge in cocoa powder, then set on sheet. Repeat with the remaining chocolate, rewashing hands with cold water if they get too warm, until all truffles are made.

  • Refrigerate, then place at room temperature for about 10 minutes until ready to serve.
